Hellbound Alleee Show 123: Heaven: A Nice Place to Visit, But...Part 2

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This week, I'm on my own while Francois adjusts to the new time zone, with Heaven: A Nice Place to Visit, But...Part 2. I finish discussing the theories of the "expert," the ramblings of a crackpot, and the extremely earthly desires of some zealous Christians.

According to what you read on your podcast, heaven has "different" laws of physics than our reality. But I thought some christians claim that our laws of physics show intelligently designed "fine-tuning" to make life possible, and that any devation from them would create a dead universe.

The Martha Stewart-like heaven fantasies you read also sounded really sad. Apparently such people have fixated on heaven because they don't make enough money here and now. Probably not coincidentally, a recent study of American god beliefs found that high-income Americans tend to beieve either in a "distant god" or no god at all, whereas dirt poor Americans (especially in the South) tend to believe in an "authoritarian god" who wants to zap you for disobedience.

Olly! I didn't end up here, I am a real Washingtonian! I've lived here all my life, mostly in Wenatchee, and 10 years in Seattle. So yeah, Franc will be discovering how this place works. It sure as hell is a lot more religious than Montreal!

I think some of the comments on that thread are from people who have been watching too much Dead Like Me.

Well, Steve, I love that show, and I wonder if some of those people would be even ALLOWED to watch it. Sure, it's corny and it has stupid heaven in it. There's something about that girl (what's her name? George?) that I like.

Agreed, as far as fantasy goes, it's a good show. Some Christians seem to think it's an accurate representation of their Afterlife, though.
