The schools I attended during the Cold War had designated safe areas that we were supposed to go to during a nuclear attack. I can remember thinking that I would survive and my parents would be killed. Some of my friends and I even attempted to dig a shelter in my back yard. After digging a grave sized hole 2 feet deep, we gave up.
What memories! I used to read the article on fallout shelter building in my World Book Encyclpedia and imagine how cool it would be to have one attached to our house. Alas, Dad had no interest in a home improvement of that type. I've always been somewhat bemused by the stories about kids then being terrified of nuclear holocost. Doesn't apply to how I felt at the time.
Enjoying your podcasts very much. I've listened to about the last ten. I found you by searching for atheist libertarian and I'm pleased to find there are others of that persuasion. Looking forward to more.
