Mondo Diablo Episode 286: This Christmas has Been Brought to You by Child Labor

This week, the Krampus and his workers, Knecht Ruprecht, Krampus, Hans Trapp, Zwarte Piet, Klaubauf, Muff, Butz, Pere Fouettard and Belsnickel, bring you the last in the series of Worst Jobs podcasts. This time it's children making dolls for children, gos-herding and turkey dressing. As in, yanking the guts out of hundreds or maybe thousands of fresh turkeys, by hand, in time for Christmas.

But my own day of judgment is at hand (did you know that the Visit from Saint Nicholas could be considered a mini "day of judgment" for children? It's true)! I will be presenting, tomorrow night, a small amount of information about Christmas political history, characters and pagan traditions that have come all the way to us. Mondo Diablo Episode 285: The Boar's Head

This week, the BBC shares information about Boar's Heads and Yule logs, which is all incredibly interesting. But I would like to share some information about the Stallo, the Metal Man, who is another in my growing list of Annual Gift-Giving Men other than Saint Nicholas.

The Saami await a Yuletide visit from a giant, horned and hairy wildman named Stallo. In Lappish, stallo means "metal man." Sometimes Stallo is dressed in stylish, all-black clothes like an MIB (man in black) or in a metallic suit (as conspiracy theorists conjecture, a robot or ancient astronaut in a space suit). Most likely the metal suit was the chain-mail armor of the berserker Vikings. The amoral Stallo delights in macabre acts of genital mutilation of his innocent victims. (Stallo pokes his staff up the skirts of young girls.) On Christmas Eve, Stallo rides around in his sleigh looking for something to drink. Traditionally, the Saami drive a stake into the ground near a fresh-water supply so Stallo can tie up his sled while having a refreshing gulp of water. If Stallo cannot find anything to drink, he will bash in a child's skull, sucking out the brains and blood to satiate his thirst. The most dangerous night for Lapp children is Christmas Eve, when Stallo lurks about looking for naughty victims to cram into his sack.

Mondo Diablo Episode 284: Vomit Collector's Christmas

Welcome to your Atheist Christmas Podcast for the Year of Our Overlords, 2010. This year, I'm looking back at Christmas past. "Your past" you ask? No, long past. Looooong past. Go back, back, back before that cloudy April when some guy who may have been named Jesus but decidedly didn't perform any miracles and wasn't born of a virgin and may or may not have been a prophet or a rabbi, and may or may not have been crucified, was born. You'll see Egyptians lounging about, you'll see Greek women tearing apart a hapless young man, and you'll see masters pretending their slaves are "free" for a fortnight. You'll see yetis and wildmen covered in fur, delivering presents to people in northern Europe and Scandinavia. You'll see holly, ivy and trees, decorated in festive gold and silver, and blazing fires, while people warm themselves and gorge on meat. You'll see lascivious displays of cross dressing and public orgy. You'll marvel as reindeer fly on psychedelic mushrooms, and wonder why you still see those mushrooms on Christmas trees. There is so much to see, and only a month to see it all. So strap in and get ready to be overwhelmed, or, in the case of most of you, underwhelmed. "Seen that, done it."

This week, our old friend Bob Larson (whose under investigation-what conservative radio personality isn't) tries to pull off some amazingly New Age therapy on some gay men. It includes the assumption that they hate their fathers, and when that doesn't pan out, they hate their mothers. I suppose if this guy had hated his father, he would have pulled out some old men out of the audience to help with his routine, and it would have been a big male affection festival. In case you're wondering, I saw this video posted on this blog: http://goeagles2u.blogspot.com/ . I don't know if anyone is entertained by endtimes predictions, but I wouldn't mind if the blog author saw this on his trackback.

This is another typical alarmist video from some Christian preacher. A Warning-against-Rampant-Satanism video is not a rarity, not by any means. This one happens to be chock full of copyright violationy goodness. Yes, it's fair use. But I don't think Disney knows what Fair Use means. You have to wonder how many Christian materials snatched up Disney content to show rampant liberalism/homosexuality/satanism/Communism is. Hey, RIAA: don't look at me: you should really plumb the depths of the Christian Educational Video genre. It would be a goldmine--for the RIAA, of course, Not for the artists. Riiight. They give money won from lawsuits to ARTISTS. I'd like to see THAT happen.

I have enjoyed Peter Schickele and his disovery, P.D.Q. Bach for, garsh, 25 years at least, for "Bob's" sake. Funny I haven't shared much with you yet. well, not so funny (yes, so funny). All of my music is on vinyl. So, I had to do an epic search and and epic emptying of my bank account to get some non-scratchy stuff. Of course, some of the scratchy stuff is inevitable. I listened to it a lot, because I was a nerd. A big nerd. I used to sing some of this stuff in school, because I knew people would have no idea what I was doing. And of course, they didn't give a shit, either. No worries.

Lately, I've been interacting more with people of the ages I shouldn't be voluntarily interacting with--in my leisure time. Oh, I don't mean you, dear friends, my dear young friends--you know who you are--who are so far superior to HUMAN young people that the thought of them makes you yawn and retch simultaneously--and that's a monumental task. No, I'm talking about that wretched Facebouf. You know the one--you might have found my podcast here, right now! Interacting on Facebouf is like posting on Christian message boards. Christians think the Internet is in America, and foreigners should get out. 12 year-old boyZ and pregnant, 13 year-old GirZ who post on facebouf think that we're all in their territory, the one with RingpopZ and WebCritterZ and homemade, misspelled tattooZ. And these young peepZ, these future leaderZ of the UniverZe are the most sexist, misogynistic little squeebZ in the universe. And so I complain about attitudes in past advertising, because it all seems so similar. Luckily, none of my facebouf "frenZ" tell me I should be in the kitchen, making them a sandwich. I don't understand why their dadZ don't make them sandwiches, when they're obviously hungry and I don't get it because I am not Phresh Phly PantZ on the groun'.

Mondo Diablo Episode 255: God is a Killer!

Many Christians (I don't know the percentage) actually do worship a murderous, bloodthirsty god (regardless of the fact it's apparent in the bible that it is), and consider fear of their god a necessity to go into "heaven." It's a lot more simple and practical than it first sounds. This is not some great spiritual truth for them. This is not enlightenment in the least. This is as primitive as any "religion" can get: You've got to love God or He will kill you. (Sound familiar?) So why study the bible or pray? They don't want no fruity intellectuals in this religion. Alls you gotta do is get saved. Alls you gotta do to want to get saved is be ascareded. Praise. And that's something to be proud of.
