Mondo Diablo Episode 206: Shep's Bulldada

"Shep" refers to the great Jean Shepherd of "A Christmas Story" fame. "Bulldada" is unintentional hilarity, and, in this case, unintentional hilarity of the type that finds its way to you in the mail, slipped into a library book, hiding on a thrift-store shelf, or pinned to a public kiosk. Information that can CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Listen as Jean Shepherd, from April 1965, with True Slack, reads one such piece of Bulldada.

Hellbound Alleee Show 139: Revelation

Photobucket

This week, Franc and I go over our hour a few minutes going through Revelation, page by page, trying to make sense of it. We also talk about the fantasy of The Corporation (see the movie, click the link) and mention Franc's blog, Check Your Premises.

I'm making a Krampus Christmas tree skirt to go with my Krampus tree topper, so I was explaining what a Krampus was, its use in parenting in the 19th century and how Capitalism/Consumerism and Santa influence parenting today.

Mondo Diablo Episode 203: God is Gonna Get You! Christian Love on YouTube

As you know, I made a YouTube video (that currently has over 140,000 views) about the immoral lesson taught in the Noah's Ark story. Last week on Hellbound Alleee I talked about some anxiety/OCD issues I have, some involving the fear of reading possible negative comments or emails on blogs and message boards. I promised I'd make a podcast with me reading those comments from my Noah's Ark video, as a sort of confront therapy. Here is that podcast.

This one's heavy on Hot Old-Timey blues and jazz.

Alleee and Franc discuss what gives life meaning, and what meaning actually means, because, well, everyone's talking about a different thing, aren't they?

Does heaven, or everlasting life give one meaning? Does reproduction? Does heroic or memorable acts give life meaning? Or does life already have meaning?

Hellbound Alleee Show 134: Listener Emails, Rants and Buddhism with Edward Greve

Francois and I read listener mail, talk about belief in the State, and speak with our good friend Edward Greve, from his current residence in Taiwan. Edward will be re-entering a Buddhist monastery in Thailand.

Topic: when Christians talk about solving problems through prayer, could there be mitigating circumstances, when prayer is used to evaluate moral conundrums? Ed talked to us about the value of meditation. Could this kind of focused concentration have a value near to that of disciplined meditation?

Episode 198: Self-Hypnosis with Gil Boyne

Subtitle:
The Baby Becomes State Property at Conception or Moral Tautology is Arbitrary

The show features Gil Boyne. He's going to hypnotize you!

Here's my rant: According to some, because China "doesn't have" freedom of speech, it's "right" for them to confiscate any books they want at customs, and no one has a "right" to complain about it. Apparently, an imaginary concept can create something out of thin air, rationalizing violence, because, well, laws aren't just "arbitrary," are they? Who can make a moral judgment (i.e. "whining") but an individual, the only entity that can act? Is "China" real, and are "its" laws not arbitrary, whether they came into being through democracy or blood...or both?

Episode 197: Carl Sagan on Natural and Artificial Selection

Carl Sagan's Cosmos is still relevant, still enlightening, and still entertaining after twenty-nine (!) years. I am fond of them all, but the one that sticks in my mind is the tale of the Heiki Crabs, which bear, ostensibly, miraculous markings on their shells. Carl explains why, and relates this artificially selected phenomenon with the theory of natural selection.
